Winter Wonderland || 2012

After three days of playing scrabble, eating junk food and sleeping on air mattresses at the in laws we finally have our power back on! Thankfully, we had a working fireplace stove to keep us warm and heat up water. My husband and I had left the house everyday, snow didn't stop us from driving.

And of course, I cant help myself! My camera was charged and ready as soon as the snow starting falling. I felt like I was in another country, not recognizing common streets because the snow had covered everything from head to toe. Anyways enough said. Wish I would have taken more.

My Sunday Morning

Last Sunday I took a little drive by myself to enjoy the beautiful morning! I had brought my camera along knowing that I will regret it if I don't. On my way to my parents house to print something, I looked down a street looking for anything that may catch my eye and at that moment I saw two beautiful deer. I stopped. Reversed. And went down the road as they were coming towards me. (It was too early for anyone to be out driving around) I stopped the car and got out to take some pictures as they continued to get closer. After they had passed me I got into the car and reversed again to follow them.

And of course, I am amazed at what I am seeing! The two beautiful deer were walking along the water front and at that same time I have my camera in my hand. Hello gorgeous morning...

At Last (Mike and Deb's Wedding)

Yes!!! I am married!!! Such a wonderful thing. I just wanted to share a few photos from our wedding back in August with everyone! It has taken me forever to post these only because my photographer had given me permission to edit them myself. Still working on them but getting close to being done. I feel like I really had a fairy tale wedding, I wouldn't have wanted it any different. Worked really hard on every detail of my wedding my wedding to make it just the way I wanted it. There was maybe one day I felt stressed out of the 6 weeks I had to plan, but otherwise I was surprised at how much peace I had. Love my family, thank you everyone for your help and support! Mike and I are so blessed and appreciate you all so much.

Meet my friend Denise Mira. I've known this wonderful woman since 1997. You can always count on a laugh or a smile when around her. She loves God with all of her heart and approaches life as a daring adventure of faith! I know she adores her family, and by her actions she has shown that to be very true. Her hubby of 31 years, Gregory, her five sons, two daughters-in-law, and granddaughter complete the current family photo. Denise wrote a book called "No Ordinary Child": Unlocking the Leader Within Your Child and travels, speaking at conferences and churches both nationally and internationally. Her passion is encouraging parents to tap into the dynamic potential God has placed in their children.

Dark Chocolate Blackberry Muffins

My husband and I had picked a whole bunch of blackberries over the summer and froze them! I needed something to do with them so I made blackberry jam and these delicious muffins! Amazing heated up with real whip creamed piled on top.

Something New I Enjoy

Something new I enjoy doing, and find myself doing it often. Now that I am married and living in a house I realized I was going to need some furniture, and furniture that will match. I also realized our house has a lot of character and you kind of have to decorate with the colors and style of the house instead of my own style. I recently got into spray painting old furniture to make it look new. We have slowly been putting together our house. Mike had an old TV stand that didn't match and needed to be thrown into the garage FOR EV VER. We have been looking at thrift stores for a decent piece of furniture to spray paint instead of paying more for a new piece. We finally had found something! All it needed was some sanding down, some spray paint, and some vintage nobs :) $13.00 later...

Derrick and Brooke

Last week I got to photograph this fun couple, Derrick and Brooke! We went down to Chambers Bay which from a picture view, looks like your in a whole other country. They definitely made it easier for me by coming prepared. They were very comfortable in front of the camera and I barely had to tell them what to do.

Derrick and Brooke met at a gas station 9 years ago and been together ever since! They bought their first house together 3 years ago, and now have a german sheperd and a boxer, Dallas and Tyson. They were married may 28th, 2009 in Seista Keys Florida at sunset on the beach. They both come from huge families, Derrick from a family of 9 kids and Brooke from a family of 8 kids. Derricks passion is music and is pursuing that and possibly pursuing modeling, and Brooke is a hair stylist and has recently opened her own salon.

Brooke is going to do my hair for my wedding in August and I am very excited!!!

Okay... something that I find funny! I don't know that I've actually met Dak and Kristie formally... but they used to come into Taco Del Mar often, where I held my first job for 2 years. I focused on my photography for a year before I got hired at my second job as a local Tacoma barista. And guess who I ran into? Yep! Dak and Kristie! After the coffee shop closing down, I had gotten another job at a neighborhood coffee shop close by, and yes they followed me there too. I also ran into them at the Market, Proctor St... after awhile I assumed they were stalking me, but to find out they are normal like me and one of the sweetest couples I have met!

Kristie loves her job as an environmental attorney working for the State of Washington, but plans to focus on family and work just part time after adopting. Dak is a web usability expert, and part of the tech industry in Seattle.

Dak and Kristie met in Seattle on Summer Solstice (the longest day of the year) in June 2000, and were married five years later on the same day.
They are hoping there’s a special little someone out there who they are meant to find and to love without question the rest of our lives. They are looking forward to sharing the world with this child and see it through his or her eyes.

Nikki Senior Portraits

I am always trying to keep my eyes open and looking for new locations to shoot at, instead of doing the same old same all the time. This time I had driven by a couple of places that had stood out to me. One, I have been often (with the Greek Architecture), and the other was my first time (overgrown grass off the side of the road). Last time I was looking for overgrown grass, I had found some but when the day came to shoot the grass had been cut aghhhh... lesson learned this time! I checked the day of.

At age 18, Nikki has been working at a Day Care for 2 years now, and heading her way to finish High School and graduate. Next, she is headed to Tacoma Community College and going into the nursing field to pursue her career.

Dexter Senior Portraits

Dexter and I headed Down Town Tacoma thinking it was going to be sunny out, but not too far into the shoot it started to poor down rain (Common in Washington). Thankfully Dexter was willing to work with me, so we went ahead and shot in the rain. Not only was it my first time photographing in the rain, but it was my first time photographing a ballerina. This talented, enthusiastic girl started dancing when she was 3, and now at the age of 18 she is still pursuing her passion! She has studied in New York, Houston, New Mexico, Michigan and in San Francisco. She is currently dancing for the Metropolitan Ballet of Tacoma and now going to study performing arts next year at UW. She is one talented artist! Thank you Dexter for letting me photograph you, hope you love the photos.

Ben and Jessica's Wedding

Here is the most recent wedding I photographed!

Again, I always luck out when it comes to photographing a wedding. The day before the wedding, it had been pouring all day... which isn't a surprise not only in Washington but also in March. The next day when I woke up the sun was shining through my window and I freaked out! The perfect recipe for photographing a wedding is nice weather, a happy couple and time management. That is... My perfect recipe! And if its not nice outside then that means "Flash" which I "Hate". It was beautiful outside as long as I needed it to be. Right after I photographed the happy couple outside and got in the car, it had started to rain. What a beautiful March wedding!

Isn't She Lovely...

And she is finally here! Once the due date had come and gone... I waited patiently for a phone call letting me know that it was time to head to the Birthing Inn. That time never actually came... my sister and I did end up heading out early because the roads were icy and it was freezing out and we didn't want to get stuck and not be able to make it. My Uncle gave us a ride so willingly seeing he had a decent car for the weather. Her husband Michael went to work and was on call for when Jamie went into labor, he ended up being there way before that which I am glad. We spent a lot of time eating it seemed... we watched a movie and read plus talked about relationships haha... before we knew it her contractions were getting stronger and Stronger, and STRONGER... I spent some time talking with the midwifes husband in the other room, watching Michael run into the kitchen every 10 minutes to grab some food and let us know its all going good. I got to see the baby be born shortly after midnight and she is the most beautiful thing I have ever seen! I am so proud of my sister and brother-in-law. I stayed the night with my sister at the Birthing Inn while her husband went out to get some work and ended up taking a double shift over night "YIKES"... and that is amazing to me, you have to do what you have to do. So I stayed with my sister and got "some" sleep... but I was overjoyed to be with my sister! Congrats Michael and Jamie... isn't she lovely? Words and pictures cant express how beautiful and wonderful she is!

Though this was the most challenging shoot I have ever done, I had so much fun doing it! I don't photograph families often, but the more experience I get the more I want to photograph them. It took us two shoots to finally get it down. That never happens to me, but I asked if I could re-do the shoot because I knew that I could have done better, and thankfully they were understanding!

It always helps when mom comes prepared with sweet little outfits for the two little ones... the youngest one couldn't quite sit up yet so she brought a basket which worked out perfect and made the pictures more interesting and creative.

This wedding was one of the most relaxed and simple, yet the most beautiful to me!!! I was very happy to be a bridesmaid and also got to do Gabrielle's hair and make up! I am also very happy to have another sister added to the family! Love you both with all of my heart, and I am so excited to see what God has for you both!!!!!!!

Mount Rainier, Pinnacle Peak

Last weekend Mike and I hiked Pinnacle Peak, and it was the most beautiful hike I have ever been on. The hike was all up hill, but very rewarding the whole way up! Once we reached the top, behind us we could see Mount Rainier and ahead of us we could see Mount Adams. The only problem was we forgot bug spray. We were able to ask a couple half way up, all they said "good luck, there are biting flies on the top"... thanks... we were able to ask an older "sweet" couple who provided us with some bug spray which saved us a lot of bites. We weren't able to stay at the top very long, just because there were so many bugs... but we enjoyed the way down... once reaching the bottom we made some hot soup and watched the sunset! I was happy to have a beautiful clear day...

It seems as though we (as in women) are always trying to figure out who will end up together, but for some reason the very two people that get together I would have never guessed. I am so happy to see my oldest brother and good friend (soon to be sister) get married... I would have never guessed, but then again I cant see it any other way. Thank you Patrick, for being an awesome, older brother and I love you dearly! Thank you Gabes for your heart and friendship that you so freely give me even though I make mistakes! This beautiful woman, who I had the pleasure of photographing last week! I got to try out something that was a little new to me... and that was photographing Sherri in a garden. I am so used to doing portraits near urban settings, but this was perfect for what I was hoping for. It was a beautiful day outside which is where all the great lighting came from, plus all the flowers that brought along all the colors! Hope you love them Sherri, and I hope to see your face soon :)

We have been camping every weekend! This weekend was West Port with our good friends...

6 and a half months prego (I think) and still out camping with the rest of us!

Mike and I were walking along the jetty and came across this weasel, I didn't expect to see something like this...

These two young boys were giving away kittens... I wanted to take one home, especially this white one with blue eye!

Mount St. Hellens Day Trip

Mike and I drove out to Mount St. Helen's for the day last week! The weather wasn't as nice as we were hoping, but I still happened to get a few good shots of everything but Mount St. Helens.

We finally arrived to the viewing point - it was raining and the Mountain was covered in fog - there was nothing to be seen. We waited for a little while hoping it would clear up but only until we decided to leave it started to clear.

We took a small hike along this peaceful lake... still no Mountain to be seen...

As we started to head home the fog raised a little and we were able to see the bottom of the Mountain... guess that will do for now!
